Roy Carter Jr - Tenor Saxophone

Roy attended and studied at the University of Evansville Music Department.

After that Roy went on the road playing with various R & B bands
in Las Vegas and San Francisco.

He worked with keyboardist John Carswell (formerly of Rare Earth)
in a jazz group performing in various clubs in New York City.

After returning to Evansville Roy continued to work with area groups
including Blues 4 U, Michael Gough Group, as well as other notable groups.

He has also performed with the Drifters, the Coasters, the Diamonds,
and Chuck Berry.

 

In 2015 he was named Evansville's "JAZZ Musician of the Year" at the 8th Annual Kenny Kent Lexus Jazz & Wine Festival in September.

The award was presented by WUEV's Paul Mattingly and is awarded by the Evansville Philharmonic Guild. Roy, the awards 3rd recipient, joins previous winners Jeff Harmon and Pat Moore.

2015 was a big year for Roy as he was also awarded the River Basin Blues Society's
"Blues Heritage Award" at the 5th Annual River Basin Blues Blast in November.

River Basin Blues Society President Paul Mattingly and Vice President Richard Boyd
shared their congratulations as Roy received the award.
